I don't believe this product could provide the breadth of categorization every single one of "my" companies and members would require. But that's just me. I made my comment to be supportive of others who might hit upon the "right' implementation that would work for them. I'm just thinking out of the box here...Spanner has already implemented company tags and a description field and keywords field in the Custom Meta section with every company profile. Could those somehow be used in some fashion to further categorize companies and searchable via database queries? Isn't there some mechanism to point a search engine directly at a website? Could a way to categorize companies in different ways be done that way?

have only been testing using one category. I just created three different categories and created the same company under each one. if I click on the main "Company Directory" tab I see the following: If you click on one of the categories shown above the following screen appears instead of a list of companies assigned to the Artificial Intelligence" category or any other category you click on.: If you click on any of the companies as shown below: You get directed back to the Forums page not the company profile page. I went ahead and deleted the categories and went back to just the one I have been using called "Company Directory". When I click on the company I get directed to forums again. I had been updating Company Directory from build to build over the past couple of months and it worked as expected. A couple of days ago I reinstalled 4.3.6 and installed the Company Directory from scratch and ever since I've been seeing the above behavior. Just to verify it wasn't a fluke I went ahead and deleted everything and reinstalled the IPS suite and Company Directory this evening and see the same exact behavior. If I click on the Customer Center, Edit profile I would expect to go to the profile. Instead It gets redirected to what is shown below:: Why things would work as long as I was updating but not with a fresh install is a bit of a mystery. These issues are the only thing I've noticed so far but I have only been looking around for a couple of minutes.

For years the only affective means of getting their company name in front of consumers were via phone books where you could list your company name. For large sums of money you could get your company listed under a category. Only the most profitable companies did so. With the advent of the internet, companies could readily promote the fact they offered more than a one product or service and consumers could more readily discover them. As the product currently stands it is setup like an old fashioned phonebook. A company gets their company name listed and they can choose to be listed under one category. The Company Directory should allow for easy identification of which companies offers a product or service a consumer is looking for. Otherwise it will force consumers to go to elsewhere negating the value of a Company Directory. So I can readily see why folks are feeling constrained by how this product is currently architected.

This seems to occur only when using certain browsers which is why I hadn't noticed it before. It isn't just Company Directory that is being affected. It shows up in the ACP and other parts of the IPS Community, as such II have filed a bug with IPS: https://invisioncommunity.com/4bugtrack/alpha-and-beta-reports/beta-2-toggle-switch-displaying-incorrectly-r15042/

@Spanner As more of us become active in this forum switching back and forth from offering up suggestions or asking for support it might be beneficial to split the conversations into two topics. You briefly used the club to engage us in a conversation around how best to implement the new SMS feature. Maybe the club could be home for suggestions and this one for support or everything could be run out if the club and this topic points people there. Also some topics would be better handled in via separate threads as it may deal with a topic only a subset of users care about.

I was actually poking around the database a few hours ago to see if I could figure out how to import a group of companies and stopped as I wasn't sure how to accomplish it or if it indeed could be done via phpMyAdmin. I was just about to make my own posting asking for assistance when I got an email informing me of your posting. It would be nice to have the ability to import a .csv file of companies via the ACP some time down the road. Most company directories allow for such functionality to facilitate migrating from one program to another or to facilitate the creation of multiple accounts in a manner of moments.

I've been nagging IPS for some time to be more transparent with their release notes. The 4.3.3 release note really took the cake: Other minor bug fixes and improvements IPS just released their Release Notes for Beta 1, thankfully they provided a bit more info this time: https://invisioncommunity.com/release-notes/440-beta-1-r81/ .

With IPS admitting they fixed 450 bugs in 4.4 and this release includes a lot of theme changes and small improvements it will take some time to verify if today's release will require updating to be compatible. I suspect there will be several dot releases before 4.4 is stabilized and one of them is likely to adversely impact this product in some fashion or another and the cause is unlikely to be obvious. Spanner will have to take into consideration all of the changes as he figures out how best to implement the cued up list of suggestions. Some of the suggestions should be quick and easy to implement but others will be a little more tricky. But as some of the existing functionality was sure to be tricky at first I'm pretty confident that Spanner will pull some rabbit's out of the hat and we will get a feature update. A timefrane of when that might happen would be a complete guess on Spanner's part.

@Sonya I don't know if you read through my postings above in regards to reviews and opinions but @Spanner indicated that he would look into revising how they work. When you add your concerns into the mix there is a possibility that if you migrate companies and their reviews into the Company Directory too soon you may end up having your customer's reviews in a state that you or Spanner might not easily sort out.

I can appreciate that some purchasers of this product may want some new feature or tweak for their site but it might not be of value to others or might make this product unusable for their particular needs. This product ultimately might not work out for everyone in the end, at least not without some custom programming by Spanner or someone else. Although I have made suggestions to the product that will ultimately benefit my community if they end up being included in a future update, I thought long and hard about whether or not it may prove useful to others before submitting them. If anyone would like to talk about this product to share implementation ideas or use an idle IPS install I have to test out different ways of using the product please pm me.

Picking, choosing and suggesting new opinions might be addressed in a similar way I sketched out earlier for Custom fields as well. The idea was inspired by the fact you already implemented "suggested companies" and "Un-approved cities" as such some of the code has already put into use and doesn't have to be created from scratch and users and board staff could readily grasp the concept being used elsewhere. I will leave it in your capable hands.

    (SD) Company Directory

I created several new Custom Opinion Fields and couldn't find the means to edit them. I stumbled upon them hiding behind the "Write a review" button which is the last place I thought they would be. It appears that a member can't just complete one or more of the custom opinions they are forced to click on one of the stars for "Your rating" and fill in "Your review" as well. Many folks will abandon leaving any feedback at all. Splitting reviews and opinions into two separate areas would allow a company to chose which one is most appropriate for them or to have both. Opinions could be a very powerful tool for the board hosting Company Directory as well as the individual companies themselves. One of the problems I see above is that every custom opinion created gets pushed out to "every" company no matter if it is relevant or not. As in the above example, The two starred opinions would be relevant for a company like Microsoft but the others would just be plain goofy as one would be appropriate for bars to poll customers on and the other would be great for golf courses to gauge how challenging their golf course is compared to other golf courses with 18 holes. It would be helpful if reviews and opinions were kept separate and allow companies to pick and choose which custom opinion fields they wanted to use. Companies are rated in all different ways by various different groups already and the public can easily get a sense of how any particular company compares to their competition. As such "Your rating" results may not prove all that useful to companies or members. But "very" targeted opinion surveys can prove immensely useful to the board, members and the companies themselves. They can be used to uncover upcoming trends or trends that are on the way out. They can be used to validate new processes or products. Or in my example an company directory with lots of golf courses as members may find out that their Back Nine isn't as competitive as they thought in the minds of the public. So I hope you will consider figuring out a way to allow companies to pick and choose which opinion fields they can show and when.
